Family Day Care
Family Day Care consists of services providing care for children between the ages of 0-5, in a qualified carers' home. Primary school aged children may receive care before school, after school and during the vacation care periods. Most providers have the ability to provide a lower carer-to-child ratio, which fosters individual attention and strong relationships with one primary carer.
Central coordination units are in all states and territories to organise and support the network of carers. All services are required to adhere to the national Quality Assurance standards (NCAC), if they qualify for Child Care Benefit.
If you are a new service or have not accessed the Gowrie Training Centre before, an Introduction pack is available to your service. Contained in this pack is a current Training Calendar, registration forms for membership to the Resource Centre, training discount cards and sample publications. If you would like one of these packs, please contact the centre on 1800 129 606.
What training and support is available for the Family Day Care sector?
There are many sessions that will assist family day carers in their learning and are linked to the Quality areas. There are evening sessions scheduled as we understand the difficulty to attend day sessions.
We have on-site training options available at your request which will be customised to meet your needs. Training on almost any topic can be arranged. All you need is a minimum of 8 carers in your local area and we will do the rest! To discuss on-site training options contact us at the Gowrie Training Centre

These workshops have been developed in partnership between the Gowrie Training Centre & Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS). We have a large range of books, journals and other resources available at our Resource Centre.
