Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Update

Belonging, Being and Becoming - The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia has been distributed to all early childhood services in the last few months.

In the attached fact sheet about the Framework, the Commonwealth Government states that 'it is expected that early childhood settings will need to provide evidence of their use of the Early Years Learning Framework in designing and delivering their early learning programs'. One of the concerns around this is "when do we need to start using EYLF?" Services should have received a copy of the framework by now (it can also be downloaded via the link below). The idea is that educators will begin familiarising themselves with the framework now with the intention of exploring implementation into practice in more depth from early 2010. An Educator's Guide will be made available in the early months of next year and this will be the key tool in supporting Educators implement the framework.

What support is available for EYLF implementation?

EYLF Breakfast Forums for Leaders & Directors - the Gowrie Training Centre (PSC) now has a range of breakfast forums available for staff to become more familiar with the framework and engage in facilitated discussions on what this means for educators and services.

2010 Breakfast Forums

These forums are aimed at those who have started to look through the framework and would like the opportunity to hear more about it and discuss what it means for them as educators, what it means for services and to have the opportunity of dialogue with other educators. These forums will be added to the website shortly and information will be distributed across the sector. These forums will only be $22.00 per person to attend and this includes continental breakfast.

All forums include a continental breakfast are held between 8.00am - 9.30am at at the Gowrie Training Centre 43 Dew Street Thebarton on:

The Inclusion & Professional Support Program (IPSP) is funded by the Australian Government and is an integrated and consolidated approach to meeting the inclusion and professional support needs of child care services across Australia. It is part of the larger Child Care Support Program and has been informed by the findings of the Child Care Broadband Review conducted in 2002-2003.

As part of this program a Professional Support Coordinator (PSC) has been engaged in each state and territory across Australia.

The Professional Support Coordinator for South Australia is the Lady Gowrie Child Centre (Gowrie Training Centre). The PSC plays a key role in providing eligible child care services and individuals, regardless of their geographic location within Australia, with access to quality inclusion and professional support that is relevant, appropriate and timely. Funded as the PSC by the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) the Gowrie Training Centre has developed, and will continue to manage and monitor the delivery of professional support to all eligible child care services, Inclusion Support Facilitators and bicultural support workers, within state based regions. The Gowrie Training Centre has engaged Professional Support Service Providers (PSSPs) to deliver services in line with our Implementation Plan.

As the PSC for South Australia, the Gowrie Training Centre will undertake the following functions:

  • Undertaking state-wide professional support needs analysis;
  • Developing a Professional Support Service Delivery Implementation Plan that reflects the professional support national priorities and outcomes of the needs analysis;
  • Engaging and managing appropriate service providers, and
